Nevada's Premier Civic Leadership Experience


Leadership, civic engagement, legislation, government, parliamentary procedures and elections are not the topics you would expect most high school seniors to discuss during their summer vacations. But for 148 of Nevada's brightest students and future leaders, this was their focus from June 21 to June 27, while they attended the week long Nevada Boys' State Leadership Conference.

For nearly 70 years, the Nevada Department of the American Legion has sponsored Nevada Boys’ State, a civic leadership conference that teaches the next generation of leaders about the American democracy, leadership and the importance of being an active and engaged citizen.

This week long orientation to Nevada politics and leadership is available to any high school male senior who illustrates academic and leadership excellence. The only cost is a supply fee of $60.00. The program is hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno and receives financial support from community leaders, the State of Nevada, the American Legion, former participants and staff members. (The sister program, Nevada Girls' State, is for high school females.)
